A very rare piece, circa 1905, depicting a large fly carved in horn. Horn was a very popular material for jewellery at the beginning of 20th century and required specialist skills, not only for carving, but also for bleaching and dyeing to create spectacular tones against the translucent material. This piece, although not signed, is attributed to Elizabeth Bonte, a renowned Art Nouveau Paris jeweller who demonstrated extraordinary talent. This necklace is very long having the original rope, a bit worn in places, with hand made glass beads to complement the fly. Read more about it on our blog.
